Notre Dame, IN — The Raclin Murphy Museum of Art is pleased to announce the return of Merrimans’ Playhouse @ the Raclin Murphy, a beloved summer jazz series presented in partnership with Merrimans’ Playhouse. Now over a decade old, this cherished seasonal tradition invites audiences to experience live jazz in a relaxed outdoor setting, paired with the Museum’s collection.
Held on select Thursday evenings from May through August, performances take place from 5:30–7:30 p.m. on the Hiler Family Terrace. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair, enjoy food and beverages from local vendors, and explore the Museum’s galleries—open during each event—for a uniquely immersive arts experience.
Curated by Stephen and Mary Merriman of Merrimans’ Playhouse, the series highlights a range of jazz styles and musicians from across the Midwest and beyond:

May 21 – Merrimans’ Play-House Players
The series opens with Stephen and Mary Merriman, along with an ensemble of standout regional musicians, in a lively performance inspired by jazz’s open-session tradition. -
June 11 – The Jim Cooper/Kenny Cooper Quartet
Vibraphonist Jim Cooper and trumpeter Kenny Cooper lead a tribute to jazz legends, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Louis Armstrong. -
July 23 – Chicago Street Orchestra
Chicago’s premier Latin jazz ensemble brings high-energy sounds spanning salsa, samba, cumbia, Afro-beat, and more. -
August 27 – Abram Collier Nonet
Vocalist and baritone saxophonist Abram Collier leads a dynamic nine-piece ensemble blending jazz standards, original compositions, and inventive arrangements of
contemporary music.
Each evening features food and beverage offerings for purchase from Ivan’s Café, Oh Mamma’s, and Perry Vine, creating a vibrant, community-centered atmosphere.

Parking for the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art is available in the Visitor Lot, located directly behind the Museum, and becomes free to the public after 4:30 p.m. Additional street parking is available along Angela Boulevard. The Museum is accessible by public transit via South Bend Transpo Route 7, with a stop near the main entrance. All entrances are clearly marked for easy access.
All events are free and open to the public.
