North American Art

.

The North American Art collection includes artwork from various nations across the continent and spans the period before the arrival of European settlers to newly commissioned artwork. The collection has strengths in clothing from the Great Plains, and ceramics and textiles from the Southwest. The current collection strategy is focused on contemporary artists working in various media, with an emphasis on artists from the Great Lakes region. An excellent example of a contemporary work is Wisgak Gokbenagen (Black Ash Basket) by Pokagon Potawatomi artist Christine Marie Rapp-Morseau.
