Celebrating the recent acquisition of 28 prints by the Irish Catholic artist James Barry (1741–1806) from the collection of William and Nancy Pressly, this exhibition examines the symbolism, technical invention, and the trans-Atlantic politics on display in these monumental and dramatic compositions. Barry used printmaking to work out iconographic and artistic problems, expanding and evolving themes that he had introduced in his paintings. Included here are rare impressions of some of his provocative critiques on contemporary British politics and society.
