The Snite Museum of Art commissioned artist Kay Westhues to document some aspect of the local area as part of the City of South Bend’s 150th anniversary. She selected the St Joseph-Kankakee River portage. This walking trail between the St. Joseph River and the Kankakee River/Grand Kankakee Marsh, was one of the shortest overland segments of an ancient water route between the Great Lakes region and the Gulf of Mexico and was one of the reasons why a city grew near this bend of the St. Joseph River. Twelve color photographs from the resulting body of work will be exhibited.
On March 30 the artist informed us she has sold out of the softcover copies of the exhibition catalog.
Prints of the twelve photographs in the exhibition can be purchased in two different sizes from the artist's website, and six of the 16 x 20 prints are for sale in the Dot Shop of the South Bend Museum of Art.
