A Symposium with Artists and Curators

Join the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art for a two-day symposium amplifying the voices of Indigenous artists and curators. Featured speakers include David Ocelotl Garcia, Dakota Hoska, David Martin, Jamie Okuma, Christine Rapp-Morseau, Dana Warrington, Jason Wesaw, and Debra Yepa-Pappan.

This symposium is made possible through generous funding from the Terra Foundation for American Art. Like the Museum, the symposium is free and open to all. Attend any or all symposium events as your schedule permits. Registration is not required, but help us by letting us know you’re planning to attend. Events will be held both in the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art and in the Snite Research Center in the Visual Arts.

This evening offers an opportunity for symposium attendees to experience the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art’s approach to Indigenizing its spaces. Meet the symposium’s participating artists and experience their creative process through live demonstrations. See their work on display in the galleries and explore the organizing principles of the Museum’s Indigenous Art of the Americas.

Symposium Sessions

Annenberg Auditorium, Snite Research Center in the Visual Arts

Talks and discussions on this day will delve into the ongoing process of Indigenizing gallery spaces, institutions, and regions through the ethical celebration of Indigenous artwork, voices, and stories. Speakers will discuss their artistic and curatorial practice, their approaches toward asserting Indigenous identity through art, and practical advice and suggestions to artists and museum professionals who are undertaking this critical work. The day will be divided into three panels, each followed by a moderated roundtable discussion with a question-and-answer period. Raclin Murphy curators and Notre Dame faculty will serve as moderators.
