Albrecht Dürer's 1513 engraving Knight, Death, and the Devil has captured the imagination of viewers and artists since its creation. Argentine short story writer, essayist, and poet Jorge Luis Borges wrote two poems in response to the print, both published in 1968. Join Uruguayan poet Luis Bravo for a joint discussion of text and image.
The conversation will be held in English, but copies of the poems are available in English and Spanish by emaiing Bridget Hoyt at hoyt.14@nd.edu. Copies of the poems will also be available at the Snite Museum for the discussion itself.
Luis Bravo has published eleven works of poetry in book form and as multimedia, most recently Liquen/Lichen (2014), Paso de los Trovos: 100 DaDá (2016), Árbol Veloz [Swift Tree] (2009), and Tamudando (2010). Bravo’s poems have appeared online and in print, and have been translated into English, French, German, Swedish, Estonian, Portuguese and Farsi. He was a 2012 Fellow at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa. Bravo's essays have appeared in a variety of anthologies, magazines, and other publications; he has also published four volumes of criticism. He teaches literature at Universidad de Montevideo and is a current PhD candidate in the department of romance languages.
