THE CONSERVATION CENTER

The Friends of the Snite are excited to visit The Conservation Center and go behind the scenes of preserving and caring for fine art and the history it honors!

The Conservation Center is the largest and most comprehensive private art conservation laboratory in the country. With over 33 years of experience, The Center is a leader in the field of art preservation, evolving new treatments and methods to adapt to the rapidly changing art world. They have cared for fine art from some of the country’s most prestigious private collections, museums, galleries, insurance companies, and corporations.

Primary areas of expertise of the 30 plus staff include antiques and fine furniture, frames and gilding, murals, objects and sculpture, paintings, photographs, rare books, textiles, and works of art on paper. The Center also offers specialty services in framing and display, digital restoration, disaster response, storage, collection assessment, and transportation and installation.

CHICAGO ARCHITECTURE AND CRUISE

The Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) was founded in 1966 as the Chicago Architecture Foundation to save the historic Glessner House. Since then, the CAC has grown to become one of the largest cultural organizations in Chicago. For more than 50 years, their educators, 450 volunteer docents, and 150 guest services volunteers have shared the stories of Chicago architecture with millions of Chicagoans and visitors.

In their newest location on Wacker Drive, they continue to inspire their guests to discover why design matters. On view in the gallery is a 4,250-building scale model of Chicago, and we will be able to visit their award winning gift store before boarding for a 90-minute cruise. The CAC River Cruise has been named "top tour in Chicago and one of the top ten tours in the U.S." according to TripAdvisor. Docents will interpret more than 50 buildings along the Chicago River, and we will find out how Chicago grew from a small settlement into one of the world’s largest cities in less than 100 years.

LUNCH AT LAND & LAKE KITCHEN

Land & Lake Kitchen was created in the spirit of the classic mom-and-pop restaurants that dotted the Midwestern landscape from Iowa to Michigan throughout the 20th century. They’ve updated the look with a meticulous, welcoming, wood-accented interior and elevated the cuisine. Yet they’ve retained the commitment to the good honest cooking and fresh seasonal ingredients that made mid-century Midwestern cuisine famous.

If included in your reservation, lunch will consist of house salad, choice from four entrées, dessert, soft drink or tea.
