The Snite Museum invites you to join artist Diana Copperwhite (Irish, b. 1969) for a gallery talk about her painting Inner Garden State, on view in the exhibition Who Do We Say We Are? Irish Art 1922 | 2022. Copperwhite is one of Ireland’s preeminent painters. Her large, vividly-colored canvases navigate boundaries between abstraction and figuration.
Elected in 2021 to Aosdána, Ireland’s distinguished society of artists, Copperwhite is also a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Josef Albers Foundation in Connecticut and, in 2007, won the AIB Art Prize. Her work is in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Ireland, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Hugh Lane Gallery, the Mark Rothko Center (Latvia), Mariehamns Stadsbibliotek (Finland), and the International Red Cross (Netherlands), among others. Inner Garden State is generously on loan to the Snite Museum of Art from the O’Brien Collection (Chicago).
This event is co-sponsored by the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies. Copperwhite's gallery talk will be followed by a reception in the Great Hall of O'Shaughnessy Hall; all are welcome to attend it and stay to launch Bone and Marrow: An Anthology of Irish Poetry from Medieval to Modern.
