CANCELED: Art + Poetry: Albrecht Dürer and Victor Hugo

-

Location: Meet in the atrium

Unfortunately, this event has been canceled. Please join us next week for a discussion of Jorge Luis Borges' poetry on Durer.

Albrecht Dürer's 1513 engraving Knight, Death, and the Devil has captured the imagination of viewers and artists since its creation. French poet, novelist, and dramatist Victor Hugo wrote an ode to the artist - inspired by this print - in 1837 which he allies himself with Dürer in sharing a visionary outlook. Join Professor of French Julia Douthwaite for a joint exploration of word and image.

The conversation will be held in English, but copies of the poem are available here in both French and English. Copies will also be available at the Snite Museum for the event itself.
